Both the new Indonesian certification system and the proposed Malaysian version can only strengthen and compliment the RSPO.

I don't think it would or should compete, the major strength of the RSPO is its multi stakeholder format and this has to be the way to move forward as it’s the only way a balanced consensus can be reached by parties across the palm oil supply chain, environmental groups, NGO’s etc. The RSPO is also still a young certification system when you compare to the likes of fair trade for example - the first shipment of RSPO oil was just 3 years ago.

Despite this fact RSPO certified oil now makes up 9 / 10% of the global palm market and all efforts must go towards increasing this further.

Competing certification systems would perhaps add unnecessary confusion to all parties through the palm oil supply chain, right down to the consumer. If both the Malaysian and Indonesian certification system are used as pillars to further strengthen the RSPO then surely this should be welcomed.
