This is encouraging news. It shows that protection can work. And yet it is saddening how precariously close to extinction this species is. Only 480 individuals, even if up from 380, on earth - that should give one pause to think. Let us hope no worse disaster than has already threatened them in the past strikes this fragile population and wipes it out.

Does anyone know a website that lists all 9 subspecies? - I didnt know there were that many, and looking online ive only been able to find 4 subspecies; mountain, cross river, western and eastern; what are the other 5???
