Please declare the BP Global oil company a terrorist organization and seize all the BP Company assets and BP Company officer assets. The present BP Company liability in the oil well spill in the Gulf of Mexico is limited to $75 million but if BP Global Oil company is classified as a terrorist organization then there is no cap on liability. NASA maps show the oil plumes have entered the Gulf Stream and will soon contaminate the entire East Coast of US. The latest leak or spill rates are 100,000 barrels of oil per day (earlier estimate of 5,000 bpd was in error). All BP attempts to stop the leak or spill have failed including (TOP KILL). The only certain stop is the wells being drilled by BP that will not be completed until August 20th. Thus the total oil spill or oil leak volume will be 91 days x 100,000 bpd (4,200,000 gallons) =9.1 million barrels or 382.2 million gallons of oil. BP Global Company net profit for 1st quarter of 2010 was $6.1 BILLION and the projected annual profit of $24.4 BILLION should be guaranteed to US government by BP assets immediately to cover the cost of the cleanup of 9.1 million barrels. STOP BP FROM CUTTING THE RISER LEAKING PIPE AND INCREASING THE OIL LEAK!!!
This is what I and several others thought they should had done from the beginning. Cut the pipe clean, fit a collar over it and place a new pipe from the well to the surface. Why they didnt do it is I can only figure they wanted to get the permission to drill the relief wells in order to make sure that in the end they did not lose their well and could still produce. In fact everything they have done to date appears to have been with the intention of saving their well and not preventing the environmental disaster. This is the MO of all oil companies. They pollute like this all over the world but when it happens in someone elses country no one cares, (Ecuador Amazon) (Nigeria Delta), but when it happens on US soil watch the politics spark!
I worked with Amoco for years as a consultant and then BP bought them. In that transition all of our projects to enhance in field SCADA, security, safety and systems eventually went to the wayside. Why? Because BP outsourced all their personnal to SAIC and Gentronics and there were no longer any managers that knew anything about what was going on in their Fields nor the actual value of the projects being implemented. And 2) BPs plan to cut costs has always been to cut field level projects, personnel and SCADA, so as not to affect the salaries of their executives. For some reason they believe its less expensive to pay attorneys, settlements and fines after something bad happens than to prevent it from happening in the first place.
Hi Jeremy,
The "504,000 to 798,000 gallons" number in the article is the amount in barrels, not gallons. The spill is over 20 million gallons by the lowest current estimate.
"per day" was left out. 504,000 to 798,000 gallons per day.
