Bravo! Whole Foods!
Exactly the reason I continue to shop with Whole Foods, while still supporting my local River Valley Market Co-op!
I will surely continue to also invest and support in Whole Foods Market!!
Thank you for your loyalty and dedication to the environment.

Congratulations, WholeFoods! What a great example to set. One more reason for customers to remain loyal.
Why not 2010?
In case it's not clear in the article, this move only applies to Whole Foods-branded products. Whole Foods will still sell many products that contain palm oil produced by destroying rainforests and peatlands.
YES!!!!!! I am so happy WHOLEFOODS did this. WAY to go, you all rock!
I am sorry Whole Foods, but that just isn't good enough. We depend on you to source ALL of your products from responsible producers, not just your own brand. An ex-Austinite and ex-Californian living in Australia, I visited California just last year and shopped at Whole Foods, and I found, to my horror, that one of the ingredients listed on the very expensive cookies from some boutique bakery that I bought was palm oil. (I did find it a bit funny that they had some "just like mom used to bake" sort of slogan on the packet- I don't know anyone who bakes their cookies with palm oil, do you?) When I brought it up with the staff, they looked at me blankly and basically told me that they had never heard of palm oil or the problems surrounding its production. So I wrote a note for their suggestion box and an email, and it is nice to see that they have made some strides, but really I'd expect more from the company.
Thank you for taking this critical first step. At the rate that palm oil is being used 2012 may not be fast enough. We need a moratorium on deforestation from palm oil immediately. Palm oil does not only harm rainforests and wildlife but also human health. Palm oils promote heart disease.
I agree that it is a step in the right direction. But it just isn't happening fast enough. Time is running out by the minute. It also seems that a large company such as Whole foods could make a hunge impact by only allowing products with "sustainable" palm oil on their shelves.
First though we need to find out who is monitoring what is actually sustainable and if it is truely certified.
This is a foolish move by Whole Foods that plays into the equally imbecilic politics of the eco-Nazis. We need to produce more palm oil--substantially more to fight obesity. I don't care if we have to mow down the entire rain forest to get the job done--it will be done.
Fight obesity, Jeff? Maybe you don't realize that palm oil is full of saturated fats and therefore does not help reduce obesity.
I applaud Whole Foods to at least make a tiny step in the good direction, but I agree, it is not enough.
There should be a boycott of products that contain Palm Oil like they did in New Zealand with the Cadbury Chocolate. See here
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/2758975/Cadbury-stops-using-palm-oil-in-chocolate
"Cadbury has bowed to consumer pressure and stopped using palm oil in its dairy milk chocolate. The confectionery giant caused a furore when it was revealed it had substituted cocoa butter with vegetable fat including palm oil.
The consumers forced the company to go back to the use of cocoa butter!
I, for my part, try not to buy anything that contains Palm Oil, especially Nutella !
Sorry to say but I have recently been in Whole Foods and took my time to look around and study the labels on many of whole foods items. PALM OIL WAS IN SO MANY PRODUCTS. PALM OIL IS A DANGEROUS OIL TO USE OR EAT. It clogs the arteries and raises cholestrol levels and should be BANNED in all foods. Whole Foods is supposed to be a Health Food Store and they are selling products that contain PALM OILS. I buy nothing that has PALM OIL listed and some companies try to hide the use of it by using different names for it. Please beware of this and choose your foods, cookies, cakes etc wisely not just at Whole Foods but where ever you shop
I agree. This is an attempt to appear to protect the environment but it is not true. Many many products contain this unhealthy and irresponsible product.
