Indonesian policy has always been very short-sighted. They still do not comprehend that they have destroyed the most valuable thing they could offer - magnificent ancient forest that have been growing for millions of years.
And they did it in the sake of so called 'development.' And who took the advantage of this XIX century like development - the small group of greedy, corrupt bussinessman. What they have done can qualified as crime against humanity. Nobody and nothing will revert the impact of this relentless wave of human stupidity. Maybe time, but we would have to wait several thousand of years.

Regardless of what precedent has been set, it's pretty ridiculous to use sovereignty as an excuse for deforestation. Particularly when there hasn't been conflict for over 40 years!
