What's the point of the above link? The author concedes his article is inaccurate: "Walt Meier, research scientist at the NSIDC, has contacted us disputing the validity of Steven Goddard's methodology, and of his use of University of Illinois data to question the NSIDC's charts. We accept that these two data sets are not directly comparable, and that the University of Illinois data does not provide support for Goddard's charge that the NSIDC data is incorrect."

The ice has been melting and re-freezing for hundreds of thousands of years. Don’t be fooled by this hype, the antarctic ice has actually increased this year yet they don’t want to talk about that. For the last 10 years, the earth has actually cooled according to the global warming folks own data.

The government organizations pushing the global warming message were formed as much as 20 years ago with the purpose of identifying and mitigating man made climate change. This was before we had identified man made climate change, dos was still on computers which had 4 megabytes of ram. If they don’t have global warming and solutions they would be out of work – Think about it!

We all know by now that the climate change deniers will even deny black is black and white is white at this point. Their "opinions" are not based on scientific evidence and research let alone methodology and are not really worth noting as a result, anyway. But I will credit them for their tenacity.

On a more relevant note and to further the article, scientists have noted a substantial melt of the permanent, ancient ice leaving only thin new ice. This thin ice is extremely vulnerable to slight increases in water surface temperature and can vanish within days of a typical arctic summer exposing the dark, sun's energy absorbing ocean below it for the first time creating a positive feedback to the melting.

actually Jeff folks like Gilbert Plass were using computers in the 1950's to prove CO2 injected into columns would raise surface temp.

Arrhenius published evidence that burning fossil fuels would lead to warming in 1900 - no computers needed.

oh, and please cite a government organization pushing the global warming message for 20 yrs. the US gov has covered up and repressed the science coming for 20 yrs.

i suggest doing your homework before commenting.

Lowest ever sea ice in Arctic - http://www.enn.com/ecosystems/article/38183

“If you take reduced ice thickness into account, there is probably less ice overall in the Arctic this year than in any other year since monitoring began,” said Martin Sommerkorn, WWF International Arctic Programme’s Senior Climate Change Advisor. “This is also the first year that the Northwest Passage over the top of North America, and the Northeast Passage over the top of Russia are both free of ice.”
