Thanks for this very impressive article! Well done. On the point of direct deforestation for large scale agriculture (soy) there is always much confusion and opposing views. I alway refer to this study:
Morton, et al. (2006) Cropland expansion changes deforestation dynamics in the southern Brazilian Amazon. Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences, 103 (39).
To prove large scale soy cultivation is (or was, I don't know how well the current moratorium works) also directly responsible for deforestation in the Amazon.
Where you aware of this study and does the 1% estimate from your article still hold taking this information in consideration?
