The world energy demand is increasing. If we made biofuel, it might displace only new demand of fossil energy consumption. In this reason, we should might consider about sustainable consumption, too.

A global freeze on biofuels (most notably palm oil) would also stem the rising tide of deforestation in SE Asia and Equitorial Africa, the vast amount of CO2 released as a result of such a clearing process and also the potential for thousands of communities to protect their livelihoods and future.

This is an important topic. It seems to be developing into another crisis, along with gas prices that no one can fix, the inability of top experts to predict impacts on other factors in the global network and our general expressions of helplessness when faced with the results of our own, gross miscalculations. Just what is humanity to do? How did we get to this place? How do we overcome the misery, the long list of problems that plague us?
We can look to the cause instead of the effect. That's a novel idea. I researched this matter and came across the science of kabbalah and the work of Rav Michael Laitman PhD, a kabbalist and a scientist. His take on the topic was interesting.
He said, " What comes to mind is “Cannons instead of butter!” - Goebbels’ proclamation in his 1937 New Year’s Eve speech. As usual, we’ve wanted to do what’s best, and it’s turned out like it always has. Furthermore, we will continue ending up with unfavorable results every time, because our egoistic intentions are in disharmony with the force of Nature controlling us. While aiming ourselves egoistically, any “good initiative” we can come up with is destined to fail from the start, and moreover, as a result of our “great minds” and “good intentions” throughout history (since the time of Ancient Babylon), we are today witnessing an avalanche of collapses all at once.

It’s time to realize that we can no longer act against Nature. On the contrary, we need to study Nature and act in harmony with it. For this purpose, Kabbalah reveals Nature’s Upper Governing Force to us."

Perhaps when we look behind the effects for causes in our study of Nature we'll find answers.
