i would like to know how do goble warming change the earth and what do people think would happen later on.
some balance and perspective about Penguins for anyone honest enough to seek it can be found here: http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/originals/penguinpaper.html
Regards,
bob
Mr. Ferguson seems to be missing the point that this is simply a summary of a study, not a policy piece.
Dear Kevin,
This statement is directed at policy prescriptions under the Endangered Species Act, just as much as alarm over the Polar bear in the Arctic.
"Our findings suggest that king penguin populations are at heavy extinction risk under the current global warming predictions," write the authors.
That is the only point. Note the use of "predictions." Today, whether in economics, sociology or climate science anyone with a computer can program a prediction of anything. The questions arise over validation.
For example, Barber-Meyer, S.B., et al., (2007) estimated the relative abundance of emperor penguins at inaccessible colonies using satellite imagery. Polar Biology, 30, 1565-1570. They stated: “Numerous studies have concluded that emperor penguin population data remain insufficient for large scale analysis such as impacts of environmental change…” So, how does one reliably make a computer “prediction” when insufficient data exists? One could just as well predict abundance toward over-population, given padded data suppositions. So, in such cases one is left with “believing” what one wishes to believe. Science says believe what you see; alarmism says see what you believe.
Regards,
Bob
this is horrible an what are we going to do about it because at this point were not doing a got darn thing about. Lets make fund on penguind and at least try to do something about it ok suckers.
