Does anybody realize that it takes a lot MORE energy to manufacture CFLs. In addition to that, most of them come in that awful, not exactly "green" plastic blister packaging. Recycling these produces more pollution, or they sit in landfills FOREVER.
Incandescent bulbs are still the most economical, have the most pleasant light, the least and safest waste by-product, and do use relatively a small amount of energy. Shutting the lights all the time is also misleading since it takes the same amount of energy to flick the switch on as it takes for it to be on for two hours. There are a lot more carbon producing items in our culture that might be worth some real scrutiny.
